As part of the exhibition Sonic Commons, join us for a zine-making workshop with the beloved ras mengesha (@zine_me_a_song). Together participants will make a collaborative accordion zine in the spirit of Kilele’s theme Sound and Solidarity - weaving together elements of music, sound, and archive.
Ras Mengesha (they/them) is a zinemaker, writer, editor, and educator dedicated to democratising storytelling and bookmaking. They draw inspiration from Kenya's rich culture and delve into zines to provide an inclusive platform for marginalised voices. Their work involves exploring Kenya's archives, unearthing hidden narratives and weaving them into their zines. Their mission is to bridge the past and present, uniting diverse voices and celebrating Kenya's cultural heritage. Ras’ writing has appeared in Debunk Media,popula, Jalada Africa, Off assignment among others.
