Sonic Commons

Sonic Commons
Sonic Commons brings together five artworks and a reading and listening space where listening becomes a collective practice of being with one another. Engaging sound as a shared relational field, the exhibition considers how listening informs how we respond, negotiate and imagine our collective lives.
Sonic Commons is curated by Sound of Nairobi (Sophia Bauer and Raphael Kariuki) in collaboration with Rosie Olang' Odhiambo and E.N. Mirembe. Sound of Nairobi is an online access archive of field recordings, a platform for experimental sound art, music and a collective. Sophia Bauer is an artist working with sound as a material, medium and concept. Raphael Kariuki is an electronic music DJ/Producer from Nairobi Kenya with an interest in experimental music and sound art. As creators of Sound of Nairobi they shift into the role of curators for Kilele 2026.
Since 2024, Rosie Olang' Odhiambo and E.N. Mirembe have worked together to co-curate in transit under another sky, part of the British Council's Art Exchange Moving Image Programme. Rosie Olang’ Odhiambo is a curator and bookmaker living and working in Nairobi. E.N.Mirembe is a cultural worker who is active as a curator, writer and researcher. They are currently a Curatorial Fellow at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt.
