Mizizi Ensemble presents: what remains...

The experimental supergroup Mizizi Ensemble returns for Kilele 2026 at The Rift, with a new performance continuing on from the questions they left unanswered after their electric Kilele 2025 performance Resistance. With returning musicians Labdi Ommes (KE), [Monrhea] (KE), Nyokabi Kariũki (KE), Bernt Isak Wærstad (NO) and Jane Arnison (AU), Mizizi are now asking: what remains? With resistance comes the promise of hope, change and freedom – but what does it mean to be free? Freedom for whom and at what cost? How is freedom lived, understood, and contested in different contexts? And how do we push and pull against these questions through soundmaking, spatiality and gathering? In what remains… we’re inviting the audience to take part in a visceral ritual exploring freedom as both a promise and a paradox.
