KMRU

KMRU
KMRU (b. Nairobi, 1997) is a Nairobi born - Berlin-based sound artist whose practice is most attentive to the impulses that prompt us to pause. From Kiribati (in the South Pacific) to Lunkulu Island (Uganda), His field recordings invite presence towards the mundane - honoring relation over spectacle. KMRU’s sonic architectures span from live performances and durational pieces to field recordings and installations. As a multi-generational steward of sound whose work was seeded by the name he carries and shares with his grandfather, Kenya’s first pop-culturally renowned folk musician Joseph Kamaru. KMRU approaches his artistic relationality practice with both a reverence for and enduring reinterpretation of time - treating temporal dimensions as a collaborator in and of themselves.
