Kasiva Mutua is one of Kenya’s leading percussionists and a dynamic storyteller, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer whose work bridges African tradition and contemporary sound. A rhythmic virtuoso inspired by her grandmother’s folktales, she blends percussion with modern sounds —using music as a tool for storytelling, cultural preservation, and gender equity. A standout in the male-dominated world of percussion, Kasiva has toured internationally and collaborated with platforms such as The Nile Project and Coke Studio Africa, performing at global stages including the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. She is the co-founder of MOTRAMUSIC, an all-female drumming collective that has grown into a creative sisterhood empowering young women through rhythm. A TED Global Fellow and OkayAfrica 100 Woman, Kasiva released her percussion EP, NGEWA in 2022 and made her full artistic leap with Desturi (Spring 2025)—a bold debut album marking her evolution into a visionary artist leading Africa’s next musical chapter.
